Response from David Webber on Engelmann Reaction wood / Distressed Engelmann : “The top woods in order of stiffness are cedar, Engelmann Spruce, European Spruce, Sitka Spruce, Adirondack and the Engelmann Reaction Wood. There are exceptions to that rule. In general the softer less stiff woods are easier to drive, the stiffer ones have more headroom. Soft tops are bassier, stiff tops have brighter overtones. Stiff tops can be thinner and less braced and likely more responsive if they are built that way. All generalizations of course. All of the top materials do something well so there are no bad materials, only different materials”
